"We spread the kingdom of God when we make a covenant with god to live by his principles. We forsake all rebellion against him and receive his forgiveness through faith in his Son. We come alive. his Spirit can then fill us and make his Word a living thing. We begin to discover who the Living Word within the written Word is. Jesus works to make his principles part of our character. Our character, expressed through our words and actions, becomes the yeast in our society, wherever we are, influencing it for righteousness. This is the way God's kingdom comes and his will is done on earth as it is in heaven."
-Loren Cunningham in The Book that Transforms Nations: The Power of the Bible to Change Any Country
I would very much disagree with this quote. If we have received God's forgiveness and accepted his Son as Lord, then how would we not already know the Living Word? We are not of the world, so why would we think that God's kingdom can be realized on this earth? God is so far above us that to think we could have God's kingdom on this earth is to greatly lower God and deny him some of his most divine characteristics.
ReplyDeleteYa, fair enough... God's kingdom can't be fully realized on earth, but it is something we seek while on this world isn't it? Since the Kingdom of God is like a field where a man found a super expensive pearl, so he sold everything he owned and bought the field. Those Kingdom of God parables still kind of confuse me...
ReplyDeleteI am thinking that we don't fully know the Living Word... and we are learning more and more about him.
I think from this quote I most like the idea that by displaying Jesus' character in our lives we can become yeast in our society and spread the excitement of Him and the blessings living in His steps brings.
